Netflix won the deal by saving action film Project X-Traction, starring Jackie Chan and John Cena, for five years. But as we see more and more with movies and series planned for Netflix, a feature film can garner the most disastrous reviews and ratings, this in no way detracts from its success.
The film was released on the platform on July 28 and is at the top of the international top 10 for English-language films in its second week of operation, according to Netflix’s press site.
It has 23.6 million views from July 31 to August 6, for a total of 40.5 million hours! Project X-Traction is in the top 10 films in 74 countries and is number one in 45 countries.
It’s surprising to note that Project X-Traction has seen so much, though it’s mostly criticized by the public. On AlloCiné, the movie directed by Scott Waugh averages 2.0 out of 5 for 218 ratings at the time of writing.
Obviously, the main presence of Jackie Chan – a famous actor from Hong Kong who rose to Hollywood – and John Cena – a former superstar wrestler who succeeded in turning into movies – has nothing to do with these impressive numbers.
What is Project X-Traction all about?
At the beginning of the film, ex-soldier Luo Feng (Jackie Chan) leads a private security team in the war-torn Middle East to rescue a group of scientists from a threatened oil refinery. The only way out for a caravan of buses carrying hundreds of factory workers and their families is the highway of death.

There, the buses are invaded by a group of well-equipped and trained mercenaries led by Chris Van Horn (John Cena) and his brother Henry (Amadeus Serafini), who manage to capture the lead scientist and others.
Chrissy was tricked by Henry into taking part in the raid under false pretenses. It turns out that Henry is working for the villain Owen Paddock (Pilou Asbeck), who is behind the oil refinery raid. Luo Feng and Chris will have to team up to save civilians, and both will have personal interests at stake.
