America’s Got Talent featured a fake representation of Simon Cowell, and the video is pretty creepy

Spoilers ahead for season 17, episode 2 of America has talent!

While we’re still waiting for flying cars these days, technology has certainly come a long way in some cases. One such breakthrough came with deepfake technology, which is becoming increasingly common in the entertainment industry. In fact, a recent candidate on America has talent He just demonstrated this by using a Simon Cowell deepfake for his performance. And as you can imagine, the video is a little creepy (and somehow unbelievable).

The crazy performance, the result of a crazy collaboration, took place in the middle of an audition for the June 7 episode of America has talent. Competitors were tech geniuses Tom Graham and Chris Ume, who showed off their artificial intelligence technology known as Metaphysic. To prove it, they brought in 2018 finalist Daniel Emmet and what happened next was astounding. Through the use of a camera, Emmett was able to transform into a fake version of judge and e-bike enthusiast Simon Cowell. The tech sounded like Cowell was singing “You’re My Inspiration” from Chicago. the video that AG Posted in Twitter captures everything, so you can see for yourself:

the beauty of AG and other versions of the show around the world is that almost anything can happen. (Remember the Parmesan contender?) Thanks to him appearing a previous season, we knew Daniel Emmet could sing, but seeing him sing the 80s ballad as a British music producer was crazy. However, the judge said he “fell in love with” the performance. (But I think he may have had a lot to do with him being able to stare for a few minutes.)

The night was eventful for being just the second episode of the season. A coveted Golden Buzzer was awarded to 11-year-old Madison Taylor Baez for her portrayal of “Amazing Grace”, and she displayed a truly powerful voice. The episode was full of talent and emotional storytelling, and luckily there weren’t many other “weird” moments aside from the deepfake.

With Metaphysics moving on to the next round of AG, one wonders how they will get through their audition, which received a standing ovation. Maybe they’ll make up another judge on the show? Regardless of what they offer, I imagine it will be something quite impressive and push the limits of the technology that competitors have developed even further.

Season 17 talent so far America has talent It was great and I hope it can only get better from here. Despite the unconventional nature of their performance, I am fascinated to see how far the Metaphysic team goes. Considering she has already declared her love for him, Simon Cowell will most likely support them. I have to say though, I hope his upcoming performances don’t get too crazy in the future, because it was definitely pretty weird.

new episodes of America has talent airs Tuesdays at 8pm EST on NBC as part of the 2022 TV show. You can also stream them the next day with Peacock Premium.
