Tonight on Netflix: After Mission Cleopatra, another hilarious comic book adaptation from Alain Chabat

With his show in danger of falling in audience, journalist Dan Geraldo has no choice but to take on a new report in South America, following the Paia people who live in the heart of the Palambia Forest. Once there, he meets his guide, a debt-ridden local schemer named Pablito Camaron.

However, the latter proves to be able to lead Geraldo to the natives he seeks and even to the trail of a legendary animal known to be imaginary but very real: the famous marsupial.

At the same time, the mischievous little animal is also the target of another hero: the fifty-year-old botanist Hermoso hopes to use the orchids collected by the marsupillams to construct a filter of youth and restore his primordial youth.

To put it bluntly, if we were to compare comic book adaptations in Allen Shabat’s career, the palm would undoubtedly go to Asterix and Obelix: Mission Cleopatra. But at the very moment when the French filmmaker prepares us new Gallic adventures (the upcoming Netflix series Le Combat des Chefs), why not leave the world of Goskin and Uderzo as an exception to visit the world of Frankin?

Little known to the general public, but just as precious in the eyes of Alain Chabat, the world in which Marsupillam takes place (as well as Spirou and Fantazio or even Gaston Lagaffe) has now spawned several live-action adaptations.

In 2012, it was Chabat who had the honor of opening the ball with a film that showcased the filmmaker’s love of Frankincense’s work while offering fans a whole new adventure, imbued with the spirit of Dummies.

Like Mission Cleopatra or City of Fear, Marsupillam Trail (available on Netflix) is therefore a veritable minefield and releases a valve every three seconds, leaving us no time to hold our breath.

Filled with absurd and unexpected humor, the film knows how to rely on its very good actors: the effective duo created by Alain Chabat and Jamel Debussy, who really had no way to answer in Asterix, the excellent Fred Testot. A bad scientist and Lambert Wilson like you’ve never seen him before, a Celine Dion fan in a dictator suit.

And let’s not forget the marsupial, which is very nicely done in computer graphics and is just as cute as in the comics (which should be adapted again soon by Philippe Lachaux).

Without reaching the level of Mission Cleopatra, this film released ten years later will in any case allow you to spend a pleasant moment with friends or family and maybe discover a new world. If you enjoyed the adventure, we recommend you continue it by reading the collection Spyru and FantazioAnd more specifically the album Spiru and Heirsin which Marsupillam appears for the first time.
