Haddad on criticism: I want to believe it won’t jeopardize the relationship built over months

After clarifying that he was proposing a reflection on coalition presidentialism and not a criticism of the current legislature of the Chamber of Deputies, Finance Minister Fernando Haddad said he believed that his statement on the “power” of the Chamber would not prejudice the relationship built with MEPs in recent months.

In an interview with journalist Reinaldo Azevedo, Haddad said that the Chamber has a lot of power and that he cannot use it to humiliate the Senate or the Executive.

“I want to believe that it won’t be a question like this that will jeopardize a relationship built up over many months and which has borne so much fruit for the country”, said the minister, reiterating that he has always attended the official residence of the Speaker of the Chamber to defend the institutional issues and will continue to do so.

Haddad said he would attend a meeting later this week on the new fiscal framework. When he spoke to reporters, the minister had not yet been informed of the cancellation of this Monday’s meeting, nor of the meeting being scheduled for Tuesday.

“We will not make it a workhorse. The first step I took was to call President Arthur Lira and clarify the context of my statements,” my minister said.

“My statements do not concern the current legislature. I limit myself to praising the Chamber, the Senate and the Judiciary. We would not have gotten this far without the concurrence of the Powers of the Republic. I defended it for an institutional structure that no longer has validity , we sought a moderation between the

Powers to provide the measures the country needs,” Haddad defended.

As revealed the Political broadcast, Grupo Estado’s live news system, Lira canceled Monday’s meeting to discuss the new framework because House leaders were uncomfortable with Haddad’s statements to Reinaldo Azevedo. This meeting – which would include the speaker, Claudio Cajado (PP-BA), party leader and financial technicians – was not officially on the agenda of either Lira or Haddad.
