The power outages hit the North and Northeast the hardest, but some areas in the Southeast and Midwest were also affected.

The director general of the National Electricity Agency (Aneel), Sandoval Feitosa, declared that the blackout that occurred this morning, 15, was a “major event”. According to him, the power outage accounted for about 25% of the total system load and as of 10:25 am it had not yet fully normalized.

“Right now, we are experiencing a supply problem in the North and Northeast regions of Brazil (…) The Ministry of Energy has already communicated to the agencies and other agents that it will set up a group to analyze and study the causes of this event, which is a big event,” he said.

The blackout mainly affected the regions of the North and Northeast, but also affected some areas of the Southeast and Midwest of Brazil. The power outage occurred around 8:23 am and the restoration of the supply, according to Feitosa, began around 8:40 am.

The agency also reported that by 9:16, it had already managed to restore 6,000 MW of power supply.
