A few years ago, Jake Gyllenhaal was asked what his favorite movie scene was, and his answer was amazing, to say the least. Because the actor, who physically transformed like never before for his next film, was not looking for a sequence in the great time classic of the seventh art. He did spot a very cute little nugget from the ’90s: Cameron Crowe’s Jerry Maguire.
Released in theaters in 1997, Jerry Maguire tells the story of a sports agent played on screen by Tom Cruise. He is rich, handsome and famous, but his mundane and matter-of-fact life weighs him down. One night, he questions himself in his notebook, where he tries to determine the meaning he wants to give to his life. A remark that causes him to be fired and all his friends to flee.
A scene from the film, of which Jake Gyllenhaal is a fan, is a scene involving Jerry and Rod (Cuba Gooding Jr.), a villainous American football player who remains loyal to a fallen agent. “I love the scene when Tom says to Cuba, ‘Help me help you!’ I love that scene.”Gyllenhaal said with a smile on his lips at the AlloCiné microphone (the interview and the scene in question can be found in our player above).
“I love this film, there is a lot of humor and a lot of humanity comes out of it”The American actress continued. “I think it’s rare and brave. There aren’t many films like this.”
