Striker Árni Frederiksberg splits between player and pizza delivery boy, and has scored six goals in five Champions League games

The UEFA Champions League is going through its preliminary stages, but it already tells a more than curious story. With six goals in five games, striker Árni Frederiksberg, 31, shone for KÍ Klaksvík, holders of the Faroe Islands league title. But what arouses more curiosity is that the athlete, in addition to being a footballer, works in a company that sells frozen pizzas wholesale.
From eight in the morning until four in the afternoon, Frederiksberg works on the farm and trains in KÍ Klaksvík after hours, reconciling both professions. The winger, who wears his club’s number seven shirt, made 11 appearances for the Faroe Islands national team between 2015 and 2019, as well as winning the national championship on two occasions. Frederiksberg stressed in an interview with Norwegian TV that, at the age of 31, he needs to work hard to make money, since he doesn’t earn enough to support himself just by playing football.
– I think it’s a bit late when you’re 31 years old. It doesn’t seem like I can make enough money from football to live without working for the rest of my life. After a long time, we think the Faroe Islands could have their first fully professional club. But this will probably happen to young people, not to older ones like me – said Frederiksberg, in an interview with the Norwegian TV “NRK”.
Football in the Faroe Islands is semi-amateur and the results of Árni Frederiksberg’s KÍ Klaksvík are historic. In the first round of the Champions League qualifying round, the lowly Faroese team knocked out traditional Hungarian Ferencvárosi with an unforgettable 3-0 away return leg. In the second leg, victory on penalties against the Swedish BK Häcken, after the draws for 0 to 0 and 3 to 3. In the third qualifying round, however, the fall came in the defeat for 2 to 0 against the Norwegian Molde. Now, Kí will play in the qualifying stages of the Europa League and keep the European dream alive.
