A Roger Rabbit plush toy, a spoiler-filled shirt, a glowing sign that directly evokes time travel, or even a sneak peek of Marty McFly’s first translator…
Directed by Robert Zemeckis in the second half of the 80s, the unforgettable Back to the Future trilogy contains many small hidden details that were not very common at the time.
If you’re feeling like an Easter egg hunter and plan to re-watch these three great feature films, you might find yourself hitting the pause button on your remote endlessly.
But even if Back to the Future has many winks, let’s just focus on one here that shouldn’t have caught our attention in the first place, but which over the years and the favor of another trilogy has become important. An easter egg in itself.
To watch it, you’ll have to freeze frame at 15 minutes and 37 seconds into Back to the Future II, a scene where Marty has just landed in 2015 (so, the future) and the ’80s cafe is going vintage. When he approaches the arcade machine and starts playing Wild weaponLook closely at the two children watching him play, especially on the left.
Now try to imagine him fifteen years older, with long, curly hair, pointy ears, and a ring around his neck…
You guessed it, this young man is none other than Elijah Wood, the future interpreter of Frodo Locke in the Lord of the Rings trilogy. Only 8 years old, he took his first steps on the big screen.

But this small appearance is far from the only detail noticeable in the second opus of the saga. Indeed, we also recommend that you pay attention to the shirt worn by Doc Brown in 2015 and the colorful patterns he composed (see above). You will see that they represent a locomotive running at full speed, and two riders galloping behind, which is exactly the last sequence of the third film.
