When it comes to adapting his novels, Harlan Coben is not the first to try. The American author, a specialist in thrillers, has been actively involved in TV series in recent years as a showrunner, screenwriter or producer. After five, safe, intimidation or innocence, the viewer will be able to find the discovered (shelter). And it’s happening on the Prime Video platform.
Avid readers of Harlan Coben’s novels are familiar with his on-paper protagonist Myron Bolitare, a fallen basketball player turned sports agent. In 2011, the writer introduced the character of Mickey Bolitar, his nephew, into his world. An opportunity for our former soccer star to investigate his missing brother. This will further launch a collection centered around Mickey, a young high school student grieving after the death of his father. He will publish Discovered, his first foray into the “young adult” genre.
It is this book that has been adapted into this new Prime Video production, and which is therefore aimed at a much younger audience than its predecessor. Featuring an unknown young cast (Jaden Michaels, Abby Corrigan, Adrian Greensmith), A Decouvert relies on its rich mysteries, its twists, and its cliffhangers at every end of the episode to hopefully keep you hooked. Add a bit of fantasy and a touch of horror to it.
Harlan Coben uses here the main ingredient that makes his novels successful: mystery. Is Mickey’s father alive? What is his mother hiding? Why did they return to the United States? What happened in the haunted house when they were young? So many answers that will be trickled down in Season 1 Episode 8.
Note, for Discovered fans, that the character of Myron Bolitare does not appear in the series (even if there are a few easter eggs) and the character of Constance Zimmer (the aunt) was created specifically for the purposes of the series.
