A live-action remake of 1937’s Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs won’t be released until next year, but the culture war over the film – simply titled Snow White – is already underway.
It all started when some questioned the casting of Colombian-born actress Rachel Zegler (West Side Story) as a character described in the original Brothers Grimm story as having “skin as white as snow,” then continued when the production decided to change it. Seven dwarves in a collection of diverse characters and magical creatures of various sizes and genders.
Rachel Zegler22 years later caused a stir when he suggested that he didn’t like the original film and that the new project would take a completely different approach to the iconic character.

Now it’s the turn of 91-year-old David Hand, who worked as a Disney designer in the 1990s and whose father, David Carrick Hand, co-directed the original film, to talk about the subject in an interview with The Telegraph. Rachel Zegler He did not directly respond to his comments, which have resurfaced, but recently tweeted: “I hope the world will become kinder“, and asks its subscribers “Treat each other with patience and compassion“.
Disney also did not respond to the controversy or comment on these recent reviews. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs Considered a particularly sacred title for Disney, it was the studio’s first animated feature film, and its success allowed the company to move forward with more films.
The already controversial feature film also stars Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen, Ansu Kabia as the Huntsman and Martin Kleba as the Grinch.
Snow White has finished filming and will hit theaters on March 20, 2024.
