A graduate of Cours Florent, Gilles Lelouch began his film career as a director of short films and music videos. If he began his acting career in the early 2000s, the young man also went behind the camera twice: in 2004 for Narco, a comedy signed with Tristan Auroet, then in 2012, for a sketch of Infidels.

Since 2010, the idea of a feature film appeared in his mind. Gilles Lelouch particularly remembers the speaking circles he took on to prepare for his role as an alcoholic in Jacques Maillot’s Un singe sur le dos. Disturbed by human warmth, dialogue and listening, the filmmaker started writing a script around these themes. Then, on the advice of his producer Hugo Seliniak, he watches an arte documentary about Swedes practicing men’s synchronized swimming and then chases his background.

In Le Grand Bain, Gilles Lelouch tells the story of Bertrand, Marcus, Simon, Laurent and Thierry, who train under the dolphin, the pools’ former glory, like synchronized swimmers. A challenge that will allow them to give meaning to their lives.

To portray these ordinary men as funny as they are poignant, Gilles Lelouch brings together a five-star cast on screen: from Guillaume Canet to Mathieu Amalric, Benoit Poelvorde, Jean-Hugues Anglade, through the incredible Philippe Caterin, who won a César for Best Actor. Supporting role for his performance, or even Felix Moat, Alban Ivanov and Balasingham Tamilchelvan (who didn’t know how to swim before filming!).
