from the age of 10

This 90-minute version of The Prince and the Pauper, available on Disney+, is a condensed montage of 3×50 minutes of the original TV movies that aired on NBC in 1962 as part of the show. Walt Disney’s amazing world of colors. But the end result is: the color is used perfectly, the sets and costumes are excellent, and the story is reduced to an effective length for children because there really is no dead time.
What will they like?

- A young Sean Scully in the dual role of Prince Edward / and “Poor” Tom Kent.
- Guy Williams as the mentor-savior, always flawless and who we wish he was our friend.
- The beauty of the sets and costumes, which largely compensates for the year the film was released (1962).
- The story, as the exchange of places between the two twins – a principle seen in La FiancĂ©e de papa, released the previous year and just as worthy of a glance – quickly passes the stage of misunderstanding to confront the two visions of life. We learn that sometimes it’s very instructive to change your perspective and literally put yourself in someone else’s shoes.
What might be bothering them:

- The plot is simple, but contains complex dramatic elements, such as the poor father, an alcoholic and violent man, who we see again and again, or the prince who has a scapegoat of his own age, who is said to crack the whip instead of the young man. when the latter makes mistakes.
- We learn that the prince’s father, the king, abused his power by whipping beggars or turning them into slaves with a hot iron. One of them testifies, which is filmed in a very close-up, and mentions the death of his wife and children from starvation.
