Is there a series more seminal to the space opera genre than Star Trek, name it? In 1965, CBS aired Lost in Space with Guy Williams. The following year, NBC decided to finally approve the Star Trek project (the pilot had never aired since 1964).

If Lost in Space tells the story of the Robinson family, who are forced to leave exiled Earth to colonize other planets and find themselves wandering in space, Star Trek makes a choice and suggests that the characters are in space of their own accord, on a Starship. The two-season animated series would see the light of day in the 1970s, until Star Wars and Close Encounters of the Third Kind allowed the start of the Star Trek film and its five sequels, with returning cast members from the series.
