Oldboy: What director would change on the classic South Korean film?

Even one of the great movie classics like old boy (2003) has certain defects, and this according to the director of the film himself, Park Chan-wookwhich revealed what would change in the production released on May 13, 2005 in Brazil.

During an interview with indiewire to talk about the 4K remastered version of the film, the filmmaker commented on how, if he knew that old boy would have been so successful, it would have made a very specific change to the original version.

“Initially, when we were designing the coverage of Woo-jin, I had the idea to create a very long single lane pool. When it’s reflected in the glass and it’s swimming, it almost looks like a whitefish swimming in a long strip of water against the dark night sky,” he said. Chan-wook.

I wanted to create a very surreal image, but I couldn’t because of the budget. If I’d known at the time that the movie was going to be a hit, I would have invested more money and made the pool I wanted.

Then the director revealed how he watched the film for the third time during the restoration process: “The only time I was able to watch the film was 10 years ago, on the 10th anniversary. I watched it again with the cast and heads of departments, and I thought the character of Woo-jin much more interesting than I remembered. The actor who played him, Yoo Ji-taegave an incredible performance.”
