rocket launcher

Directed by Joe Johnston (“Captain America: The First Avenger”, “Jumanji”), “Rocketeer” is a film based on the comic book hero of the same name created by Dave Stevens.

Published in 1982 by Pacific Comics, HQ is a tribute to the pulp stories of the 30s and 40s, full of adventure, romance and action.

The film is from 1991 and its plot revolves around Cliff Secord (Billy Campbell), a racing driver in the 1930s who accidentally finds a prototype jetpack developed by none other than Howard Hughes. When he uses it, he transforms into the masked hero “The Rocketeer”.

bloodshot

“Bloodshot” is a film based on the character of the same name and is part of a superhero universe shared by Valiant.

Vin Diesel plays Ray Garrison/Bloodshot, an elite soldier who is killed in combat and later resurrected by a tech company that implants nanotechnology in his body, granting him superhuman abilities such as increased strength and regeneration.

Steel – The man of steel

Released in 1997, at a time when hero movies weren’t a fad in Hollywood, ‘Steel’ is a film based on the DC Comics character John Henry Irons, the superhero Steel (Steel in the original).

The first appearance of the hero was in the comic “The Adventures of Superman” #500, an issue that is part of the “Death of Superman” story arc. In this story, Steel is introduced as one of Superman’s “substitutes”, who sacrifices his life to stop the villain Doomsday and save Metropolis.

Already in the big screen adaptation the hero was played by NBA star Shaquille O’Neal, however the film was massacred by critics and was a flop at the box office.

The shadow

The Shadow (The Shadow in the original) is a hero who made his first appearance in a radio series in 1930. Created by Walter B. Gibson, the character has appeared in radio shows, pulp magazines, comic books and other media. The radio show includes episodes in which the Shadow is played by Orson Welles.

Very similar to Batman (the hero served as inspiration for the creation of the bat man), Sombra is the alter ego of Lamont Cranston, a wealthy and influential man who, after spending years in the East, acquires the ability to ” cloud” people’s minds, becoming invisible to their eyes and controlling their minds. He uses these skills to fight crime, masked and operating in the shadows.

The most modern adaptation of the hero for the cinema was the 1994 film, directed by Russell Mulcahy (“Highlander”), and starring Alec Baldwin as the Shadow. In the story, the hero uses his skills to fight crime and corruption in the city, mainly against the villain Shiwan Khan (John Lone).

The Old Guard

“The Old Guard” is a superhero film with elements of action and science fiction, based on the comic series of the same name created by Greg Rucka and Leandro Fernandez.

The film follows a group of immortal mercenaries led by Andy/Andromache of Scythia (Charlize Theron), who throughout the ages have used their abilities to protect the world. In the storyline, they face a pharmaceutical company that wants to exploit their healing abilities.
