Spoiler alert for Immortal Thor #1!
In Immortal Thor No. 1recently released, the God of Thunder takes on the Utgard Gods, mysterious beings who exist above Marvel’s divine natural order and whose very existence reveals vast secrets about the very reality of the House of Ideas universe.
Thor is attacked by Toranos, also known as Utgard-Thor. He’s an ancient god who’s part of a higher-level pantheon of reality, where there are beings from whom regular gods derive form and function: a bit complicated, but future matters promise to explain further.
Toranos is a towering warrior with absolute control over the storms, embodying everything that defines Thor, but on a more powerful and primal level – and that includes Mjolnir. While the opponent attacks, he is holding two objects, a giant lightning bolt and a huge circle resembling a vehicle wheel.

In some advances there was already talk of “wheels of destiny”, and the plot is full of symbolism, with poetic metaphors and more open to various interpretations. But most importantly in this issue is the fact that, in short, Mjolnir, which Thor has just rebuilt, is not as powerful an artifact as we thought.
The story implies that Mjolnir is only a physical representation that channels a small portion of a greater power. And that, perhaps, for this it is not even the hammer that is important, but how this energy is imbued with some object. Well, it’s too soon to establish anything, but this revelation already changes everything about Marvel’s cosmic artifacts forever.
Let’s see how it goes, we’ll follow up.
