Ahsoka on Disney+: Who are the main characters in the new Star Wars series?

The new series from the Star Wars universe makes its grand debut this Wednesday, August 23 on Disney+. The adventures of Ahsoka Tano, a former Jedi trained by Anakin Skywalker, allow the general public to get to know this iconic character of the franchise, who appeared most notably in season 2 of The Mandalorian.

If you haven’t seen the animated series The Clone Wars and Rebels, in which most of Ahsoka’s main characters appear, here’s a guide to the characters you can see in the new Star Wars series!

Ahsoka Tano

This former Jedi, played by Rosario Dawson, was Anakin Skywalker’s Padawan.

After actively participating in the Clone Wars, the latter decided to leave the Jedi Order shortly before the conflict was resolved. This decision explains why the latter was not killed by the Clone Army after Emperor Palpatine issued Order 66.

This departure from the Jedi Order explains why the latter is equipped with white lightsabers (he wore green blades in The Clone Wars series, despite his Padawan status).

Although she no longer holds the title of Jedi Knight, Ahsoka continues to aid the Rebel forces, including the crew of the animated series Ghost in the Rebels.

Sabine Wren

This Mandalorian, played by Natasha Liu Bordizo, was one of the heroes of the Rebels series.

Trained by the Imperial Academy, the latter eventually joined the crew of the Ghost after discovering the Empire’s true design. Abducted from the past, Sabine participated in the defense of Mandalore, armed with a dark saber, which she later entrusted to Jedi Master Cana Jarrus.

Although she possesses only limited mastery of the Force, Sabine underwent Jedi training with Ahsoka, a training that was never completed and of which we have no evidence. .

Hera Sindula

Also a member of Ghost’s crew in Rebels, Hera Syndulla is a Twi’lek from the planet Ryloth (for example, Bib Fortuna, Jabba the Hutt’s former right-hand man).

A companion to Jedi Kanan Yarus (killed in the fourth season of Rebels), the latter now holds the rank of general in the new Empire formed after Palpatine’s death.

Hera as Mary Elizabeth Winstead is accompanied by the droid Chopper, voiced by Ahsoka and Rebel creator Dave Filoni!

Ezra Bridger

Although mentioned frequently, this character does not appear in the first two episodes (we see him as a hologram, and later in a mural painted by Sabine).

The protagonist of the Rebels series, this young rebel was trained in the Jedi arts by Kanan Jarrus. A fearless warrior, Ezra did not hesitate to sacrifice his life to confront the fearsome Admiral Thrawn. Missing since the end of Rebels, the latter is expected to appear in the Ahsoka series wearing Eman Esfandi’s outfit.

Imperial Grand Admiral Thrawn

Also missing, Grand Admiral Imperial Thrawn is one of the last high-ranking officers of the Empire still alive. This iconic villain from the expanded universe of Star Wars is not only a brilliant strategist, but also an outstanding fighter who specializes in close quarters combat.

While many actors were mentioned to portray Thrawn as Ahsoka, it was ultimately decided that Lars Mikkelsen – who had already voiced her in Rebels – would play this live-action version of the character.

Huiyang

This droid is voiced by David Tennant in the original version. But her presence in Ahsoka does not mark her first appearance in the Star Wars series! Huiyang was actually present in several episodes of The Clone Wars animated series on the space shuttle Crucible to teach the apprentice Jedi how to make their lightsaber.

For this reason, Huiyang keeps within his circles the memory of every Padawan trained over the past decades. Which explains how Bailan manages to identify the weapons carried by the school.

Baylan School

This all-new character has yet to appear in any Star Wars production. This ex-Jeda turned mercenary is played by the late Ray Stevenson, to whom the very first episode of the series is dedicated.

Note that the Baylan School is armed with an orange lightsaber, a color that no other Jedi or Sith have previously possessed.

Shin Hutt

Ukrainian actress Ivana Sakhno plays the role of an apprentice of Bailan school. We know little about him other than the color of his lightsaber is red and his mastery of the Force is already palpable.

There is no doubt that the next episodes, which will be broadcast every Wednesday on Disney +, will let us know more about it!
