August 2023 marks the end of this year’s season for Brazil’s largest festival dedicated to mountain sports and culture.
The event ends exactly as it began: with a program full of challenges, fun and a friendly environment where camaraderie flourishes between friends and families. Last Saturday, August 26, more than 600 enthusiasts gathered at the Fazendão RMG, located in Juquitiba, about 90 km from São Paulo, to participate in exciting races and rides.
The Rocky Mountain Games Juquitiba festival includes several sports communities. The tribes were joined by lovers of Trail Run (6 km, 12 km and 21 km) and Canicross (5 km), as well as lovers of Mountain Bike (25 km and 50 km) and Gravel (40 km). Some have even tried their hand at both sports. Competitors in the Duathlon, an exclusive modality of this last stage of the circuit, faced a challenge that combined 12 km of running with 25 km of Mountain Bike.

The large number of entries was no surprise to the organisers, as it followed the growth trend of the previous phases. In Juquitiba, the Trail Run was the favorite with 350 participants, while the Canicross set a new record with 75 pairs. Caco Alzugaray, general manager of the Rocky Mountain Games, expressed his satisfaction with the constant presence of loyal athletes who accompany the circuit throughout the year, as well as the exciting addition of new participants, which increases motivation for the season 2024.
The RMG Fazendão, located in the Juquitiba region, in the middle of the Serra do Mar State Park and next to the Jurupará State Park, added a special touch to the third stage of the Rocky Mountain Games. Equipped with a complete infrastructure, the place has welcomed outdoor athletes and their families, offering a day of sporting activities and entertainment.
The event schedule was busy. The distribution of the kits took place on Saturday itself, a few moments before the races of all modalities. Canicross kicked off at 8am, with the infectious energy of the athlete dogs and their tutors. At 9 the departures for the three distances of the Trail Run and the Duathlon began. Then, at 10:00, the riders entered the scene, both on Mountain Bikes and Gravel, tackling challenging and fun routes, including several single tracks.

The Arena served as a meeting place for all tribes, from pre-race concentration to post-match celebrations. At Fazendão RMG, a lively facility hosted musical performances, activities and interactions with sponsors, as well as offering different gastronomic options, such as burgers and choripán from Restaurante e Pousada da Roça, Açaí from Diana and a marquee with specialty coffees and delicacies from Coffee Run by bike.
Meanwhile, the children also had their share of the action. The Go Outside camp brought young people together from 9.30am, offering a variety of outdoor activities, including canoeing on the Cachoeira do França dam. Specialized monitors and safety equipment ensured the fun in peace, while the food included in the program brought comfort to parents, allowing them to participate in the races without worries.
The Rocky Mountain Games circuit is organized by Rocky Mountain Sports Content, sponsored by FIT-UFC and supported by Joga Junto, Mynd and Patagonia Beer.
