David Grann is in style: After Killers of the Flower Moon, another of his bestsellers will be adapted for cinema with Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio, marking the legendary duo’s seventh collaboration.
Last year, Apple acquired the rights — for several million dollars, according to the trade press — to his new nonfiction book. The Castaways of Wager, has been available since April in the United States and was recently published here. The acclaimed novel remains the third bestseller in the essay category fourteen weeks after publication. Indeed, according to the New York Times (via Le Monde), the book has already sold tens of thousands of copies, and Barack Obama included it on his traditional summer reading list.
David Gran Currently, he is known as a specialist in investigating the past and is considered one of the masters of “literary journalism”. In 2016, he already broke all the records after selling the rights Flower Moon Assassins for 5 million dollars.
Set in the 1740s, The Castaways of the Wager tells, like the previous book, the story of a British navy ship that sank on a desert island in Patagonia after a mission to salvage treasure from a Spanish pavilion. Stranded and forced to survive against the elements, the crew descends into anarchy and find themselves framed by other sailors as traitors guilty of mutiny. Despite conflicting evidence, the Royal Navy organizes a trial to find out what really happened on the island.
