The rain causes the ban in Tamoios towards Caraguatatuba

SOROCABA – The layout of the ancient mountain range Tamoios highwaymain connection with the north coast of the State of São Paulo, it was banned on the morning of Monday 28, due to excessive rain.




The two-lane track is used for the descent from the mountain towards Caraguatatuba. The prohibition continued until 6 pm and traffic flowed along the new runway, in extraordinary operation, with the formation of convoys. The road closure has caused congestion in the region.

According to the concessionaire Tamoios, a safety protocol determines the interdiction of the old route when the rain in the region reaches 100 millimeters within 72 hours, due to the risk of the barriers falling. The lockdown started at 7:30 this Monday. The vehicles were stopped at the beginning of the mountain range, in Caraguatatuba and, in the opposite direction, at Jambeiro.

The convoys were carried out every two hours by teams from the dealership, with the support of the Military Traffic Police. The operation lasted an hour on average.

The rains have hit the region since last Thursday 24, when gusts of wind, in the midst of the storm, caused the roofing of an evangelical church, in the Britânia district, in Caraguatatuba. No one was injured, but the property was seized by the Civil Protection.

The storm, with winds reaching 90 kilometers per hour, according to the Civil Protection, also caused trees to fall throughout the city. At least six trees and two walls collapsed without leaving any victims. A shopping mall in the city was flooded.

  • Monday 28: minimum of 11ºC and maximum of 16ºC, with light rain in the morning and in the evening;
  • Tuesday 29: minimum of 12ºC and maximum of 19ºC, with rain all day and night;
  • Wednesday 30: minimum of 13ºC and maximum of 22ºC, with sun and clouds, but rain at any time;
  • Thursday 31: minimum of 15ºC and maximum of 21ºC, with light rain in the morning and in the evening;
  • Friday 1st September: minimum of 15ºC and maximum of 22ºC, with sun and some clouds;
  • Saturday 2nd September: minimum of 15ºC and maximum of 27ºC, with sun and some clouds;
  • Sunday 3rd September: minimum of 17ºC and maximum of 29ºC, with sun and some clouds.

Once the old route was closed due to the rain, cars and motorcycles descended in convoy from the mountain, in the direction of Caraguatatuba.
