It’s the biggest drop of the year: The Idol with The Weeknd and Lily-Rose Depp has been canceled!

The Idol , a series created by Sam Levinson ( Euphoria ), has been getting a lot of ink spilled, but certainly not enough to convince HBO to order a second season. A sultry program featuring The Weeknd and Lily-Rose Depp has just been cancelled.

After the fifth and final episode aired on July 2, there were many rumors about the possibility of a cancellation. The status of The Idol has never been clear: the program was presented as a miniseries, but some cast members hinted that a second season was possible.

It is a safe bet that if the appointment was a success, a sequel would be ordered by the chain. Although the audience was not catastrophic, the critical reception of The Idol was especially difficult, and this, from the presentation of the first two episodes at the Cannes Film Festival, where the series was presented without competition.

In a statement shared by HBO, a spokesperson said:The Idol has been one of HBO’s most provocative originals, and we’re thrilled with the strong audience response. After a review, HBO, as well as the creators and producers, decided not to offer a second season. We are grateful for the outstanding work of the creators, cast and crew.”

The Idol follows the toxic encounter and romance between pop star Joseline (Depp) and nightclub boss Tedros – The Weeknd.

Idol is available on Prime Video via Warner Pass.
