Marina rules out granting Abrolhos an oil exploration license

The Minister of Environment and Climate Change, Marina Silva, ruled out on Wednesday any possibility of granting a license for oil exploration in Abrolhos, an archipelago located off the coast of Bahia and which hosts a National Park.

In a hearing before the Mines and Energy Commission of the Chamber of Deputies, Marina strongly stated that there will be no license for oil exploration in the region and said the Abrolhos areas must be withdrawn from availability for exploration oil.

“There are things that cannot be done and we will not continue to block entrepreneurs. There will be no license for oil exploration in Abrolhos. It will not be like this!”, said the minister during the hearing held to discuss the possibility of oil exploration at the mouth of the Amazon River.
