In the Marvel family, we are asking… a vampire-bat! In March 2022, viewers were able to discover in theaters Morbius, a new superhero (or rather antihero in this case) straight from American comics and who is part of the Sony Spider-Man universe along with Venom and Kraven (expected release in Aug. 2024).
This new production, now available on Prime Video, brings Dr. Michael Morbius (played by Oscar-winning actor Jared Leto), described by the studios as “one of Marvel’s most compelling and tortured characters,” to the big screen.
Severely afflicted with a rare blood disorder and determined to save all of its victims, Dr. Morbius makes a desperate bet. Although his experiment proved successful, the cure backfired. Will good triumph over evil – or will Morbius succumb to new impulses?
The introduction of this character in the world of superheroes was not done with dignity. Daniel Espinosa’s film is far from convincing the press and audiences, if its 2.3/5 rating on its AlloCiné page is to be believed. Morbius was even nominated for the Razzie Awards this year, a ceremony that honors the worst productions.
Despite this new upset for Sony, Morbius is still a must-watch for anyone who wants to watch all the Marvel shows that are mostly interconnected. Also expect a cameo from the character seen in Spider-Man: Homecoming and a post-credits scene (in two parts) that could announce a project that reunites Spider-Man’s greatest foes…
