Palmeiras only drew against Deportivo Pereira-COL, this Wednesday (30), but secured qualification in the Libertadores semifinal. In the press conference after the match, the Portuguese coach explained his strategy for trying to overcome his opponent, who arrived in Sao Paulo with the aim of not letting Verdão play.
– Our strategy went for a three way match, we opted for Luan, a defender behind and a centre-forward up front. Abel was also questioned about the possibility of having used an alternative to the absence of Dudu, who suffered a knee injury and will only return in 2024. However, the coach tried to avoid any attempt to replace Baixola. Also, he said the three-defendant scheme is nothing new.
– What I did here was nothing new, however we were already playing. We can use three defenders or not, it depends on what the coach thinks. Nobody replaces Dudu, because Dudu is only one.
