Verdão had a bad game against Deportivo Pereira, but the coach says he has trained at other times as well

Palmeiras only drew against Deportivo Pereira-COL, this Wednesday (30), but secured qualification in the Libertadores semifinal. It turns out that the performance didn’t convince the Allianz Parque fans, as Abel Ferreira made some tactical changes that didn’t endear Palmeiras fans. However, the coach stated that there is nothing new and took the opportunity to state that there is no replacement for Dudu.
In the press conference after the match, the Portuguese coach explained his strategy for trying to overcome his opponent, who arrived in Sao Paulo with the aim of not letting Verdão play.
– Our strategy went for a three way match, we opted for Luan, a defender behind and a centre-forward up front. The opponent arrived with a tremendous hold, he didn’t let him play, a game of many duels. Substitutions were already scheduled, luckily without injuries, and this was my big concern. Our opponent came to not let us play, he had nothing to lose. I think it turned out to be a not very well played game.
Abel was also questioned about the possibility of having used an alternative to the absence of Dudu, who suffered a knee injury and will only return in 2024. However, the coach tried to avoid any attempt to replace Baixola. Also, he said the three-defendant scheme is nothing new.
– What I did here was nothing new, however we were already playing. We can use three defenders or not, it depends on what the coach thinks. Nobody replaces Dudu, because Dudu is only one. My role is to find solutions, with both three and four defenders, as Guardiola has already done. If we change it is the tactical system, but this is only the beginning, what changes are the dynamics. Either with a defender or with a back lateral. It’s understanding what needs to be done in every game – concluded coach alviverde.
Palmeiras now focuses its attention on Sunday’s derby (3), for the Brasileirão. Verdão goes to the Neo Química Arena to face Corinthians, at 16, for the 22nd day. The Libertadores will play again on September 27, at the Bombenera, against Boca Juniors, for the first leg of the semifinal.
