The fifth generation of Xeon processors will have options with processing efficiency or high-performance cores
This week, the information presented the fifth generation of processors Intel Xeon for servers during the Hot Chips conference. The strong point of the new CPUs is to offer two models, with performance or efficiency cores, to meet the different needs of the server market.

Another major difference of the new Xeons is the use of the Intel Agilex 9 modular system-on-chip (SoC). With this, Intel increases the scalability of the processors, as well as expanding the ability to serve a greater variety of products.
Up to 3x better performance
Xeons with E-Core Efficiency (Sierra Forest) are custom-designed for scalable workloads with high data volumes with optimized power consumption. Combined with modern instruction systems, the result is 2.5x higher processing density and 2.4x higher performance with a 200W thermal design.
Processors equipped with P-core (Granite Rapids) offer the best price for operations that benefit from higher frequencies. By focusing on intensive processing and artificial intelligence, the new Xeons can deliver up to 3X faster performance on these tasks. According to Intel, this makes them the best option for AI workloads so far.

The new Intel Flat Memory Technology enables data management and movement between DDR5 and CXL memory, giving software access to the entire memory capacity.
According to Intel’s release map, E-core Xeons are expected to hit the market in 2023, Q3. P-core models are expected in the first half of 2024.
