Scaloni summons Argentina with Messi and players who play in Brazil

The Argentina national team is called up to play in the first round of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. This Thursday (31st), coach Lionel Scaloni presented the 32 players who will represent the team that won the World Cup in Qatar in 2022. Among them, Lucas Esquivel and Bruno Zapelli, a couple signed by Atletico Madrid in this transfer window, in addition to the star player and captain Messi.

Although not confirmed to play in the 2026 World Cup, Messi has been recalled by manager Scaloni. In this way he will be the finalist for the best player of the year award assigned by UEFA to lead the team in this initial phase of the Qualifiers.

Thus, of the 32 names called up, 22 were in the running for the title in 2022. On the other hand, only Dybala, Papu Gomez, Acuña and Rulli have won the third championship with Argentina and are not on Scaloni’s list.
