There are significant reductions in healthcare spending among employees who exercise at least five times a month
As healthcare costs continue to rise, businesses are grappling with the ongoing challenge of managing these expenses. The survey aimed to assess what the difference was in healthcare costs between active users of Gympass compared to non-users and less active participants. The results reveal that individuals who exercised at least five times a month experienced a 35% reduction in corporate healthcare costs after a 12-month period.

Methodology
Data analysis was performed by comparing two test groups (Gympass users with up to 4 check-ins/month and users with more than 5 check-ins/month) and a control group (non-users). The sample included a control group of over 17,000 employees of Gympass corporate customers who are not subscribers and over 2,000 employees who are active subscribers. They were grouped based on similar age and gender profiles, as well as similar health care expenditures in the six months prior to the start of the study. After forming the groups, a comparison was made between the average healthcare cost in the six months preceding the first check-in and the average cost in the six months following a 12-month period. Finally, the information was cross-referenced with individual-level health data in Brazil from 2019 to 2022 to arrive at the final result. This is the first Gympass study to correlate regular physical activity with reduced health care costs. Neonatal, cancer, home, transplant, and dialysis patients were not included, as their health care costs are not affected by exercise practice.
