We’ll have to wait a little while longer to solve another True Detective case. While we excitedly discovered the first trailer for Season 4 starring Jodie Foster last April, HBO recently announced that the new season of the detective anthology series has been postponed until next year. The source confirms TVLine That launch date has been pushed back to January.
The fourth season, titled True Detective: Night Country, starring Jodie Foster and Callie Reiss, was originally slated for later this year and was part of a trailer showing the 2023 lineup of Max (HBO’s streaming platform), with the teaser saying that he “will happen this year“.
But HBO’s official website now says it will air in 2024, a date change quietly made earlier this month. Several television shows have been delayed due to writer’s and actors’ strikes in Hollywood, preventing stars and writers from promoting their projects.
Night Country stars Jodie Foster and Callie Reiss as an Alaskan detective duo. They must piece together the case when eight men who run a local arctic research station disappear without a trace. “To solve the case, the detectives will have to face the darkness they carry within themselves and unearth the ghostly truths buried beneath the eternal ice.“, says the official content.
Issa Lopez (They Return…) is the series showrunner, writer, director and producer, and Academy Award winner Barry Jenkins (Moonlight, The Underground Railroad) is an executive producer. As for Nic Pizzolatto, the series creator who wrote or co-wrote every episode of the previous three seasons, he is not involved in the creation of Season 4, but retains credit as an executive producer.
True Detective last aired in 2019, with Mahershala Ali and Stephen Dorff leading the cast for the third season.
True Detective: Night Country will be available in France on Prime Video with Warner Pass.
