Ingredients CRUMBLE (STREUSEL) – SWEET CROCANT FAROFA

– 55 g cold unsalted butter, plus a little for greasing.

– 1/2 cup(s) (tea) demerara sugar (or sugar)

– 1 cup(s) of wheat flour

– salt to taste (pinch).

– nutmeg to taste, grated. (optional)

– 1 teaspoon(s) of chemical yeast

– 1 spoon(s) (coffee) of vanilla essence (or almond essence)

– 1 egg unit, yolk(s) only, to give the end point.

Ingredients TO ACCOMPANY

– ice cream to taste (optional)

– apple to taste, baked (optional)

– banana to taste, baked

PREPARATION:

  2. Preheat the oven to 180°C.

PREPARATION:

Crumble, FAROFA (sweet):

  1. Cut the cold butter into cubes.
  2. In a bowl put the other STREUSEL ingredients (demerara sugar, flour, baking powder, vanilla or almond essence, salt, nutmeg (optional)) minus the egg yolks.
  3. Mix well with your hands, breaking up the butter so that it is added to the whole mixture.
  4. Add the egg yolks, continue mixing with your fingertips until a wet, crumbly farofa forms.
  5. To serve as a crumble, grease a mold and flour it, spread it well and cook in a preheated oven.
  6. With the same preparation, the “Crumble Cake” is made, in which the fruit is placed in a mold and the crumble is placed on top. It can be done with different fruits!

CRUMBLE, the sweet farofa, baked:

  1. Bake at 180°C for 40 minutes or until the farofa is golden and crispy. You can also knock and hear the little noise, lots of creaking.
  2. Leave to cool to room temperature.
  3. Break it into smaller pieces, forming a farofa – the size of the pieces can vary according to your preparation – if you want it more delicate, break it into smaller pieces.

FINISHING AND ASSEMBLY:

  1. Store at room temperature, covered in an airtight container, if used as a FAROFA.
  2. Accompany with ice cream, stewed fruit and other desserts of your choice.
