Joint offensive by the Civil Police and the Military Brigade results in arrests and seizures in the fight against organized crime

The Civil Police, in collaboration with the Military Brigade, carried out the In Totum operation last Friday, which culminated in the arrest of six people in Porto Alegre. The targets of this operation were members of factions operating in the south of the city, suspected of involvement in several murder cases. In total, 22 court orders were complied with, including seven preventive arrests and 15 search and seizure warrants. During the operation, the authorities also seized a revolver and several cell phones.

The court orders concern multiple investigations, including a murder that occurred on June 8 in the Chapéu de Sol neighborhood, a triple murder and an attempted murder on July 5 in the Restinga neighborhood, as well as an attempted murder registered on Avenida João Antônio da Silveira. Furthermore, the operation aimed at dismantling the practices of coercion during the trial, perpetrated by members of criminal groups against the victims of attempted murders. All of these events took place throughout the year 2023.

In addition to the arrests, the operation coordinated by delegate Marcus Viafore aimed at acquiring further evidence relating to criminal activities, as well as the seizure of firearms owned by the factions and sub-factions involved.

State Department of Homicide and Personal Protection (DHPP) director, police chief Mario Souza, stressed that the operation represents a vigorous action against organized crime and homicides in the capital, stressing that the investigation continues. “Our goal is to arrest both the perpetrators and perpetrators of the crimes, with the aim of causing a significant impact on organized crime operations,” Souza said.
