Who says September means the end of the holidays and back to school for most children and teenagers in France. Schools, colleges, high schools and universities have clearly taken the place of choice in film, and in all genres, from comedy to horror, including drama.

We can think for example of one of the first impersonations of Leonardo DiCaprio in the movie Catch me, if possible. When he walks into a French class, spotted by two students in shock and a general commotion, with the help of a close-up of his face we understand that the idea has just occurred to this would-be fraud genius. Just then he goes to the blackboard and writes his name in big chalk and introduces himself as Mr. Abanale, the French teacher.

In the 80s, Nightclaws, Wes Craven’s first film in the Freddy series, also offered a memorable classroom scene. While taking a course on Shakespearean literature that seemed a little too sad for her taste, young Nancy’s misfortune was sleeping.

And it’s not a good night’s sleep when there’s a bug running around in a striped sweater. Nancy then starts having strange visions before coming face to face with the Dream Killer and finally waking up screaming in class.

We could also think of a very young Sean Penn at Ridgemont High School delivering pizza to class, Miles Morales and Gwen Stacy meeting for the first time in Spider-Man: The Spider-Verse, or even Peter acting weirder than Peter in the legacy of Ari Astaire and banging his desk in a creepy way.

But it’s time to play, with eight more classroom scenes on offer in this quiz. Are you going to create the perfect copy by finding all the teachers these students have faced?
