After The Whale, which won an Oscar for Brendan Fraser and earned $54.8 million (from a $3 million budget), Darren Aronofsky has already filmed his next project. But before you get too excited, know that you probably won’t be able to see it in theaters because it will only be showing in one place in the world… Las Vegas!
under the name Postcards from Earth, the film will premiere exclusively at The Venetian Resort’s Sphere, a 112-meter-tall spherical music and entertainment arena. While its outer surface can change its appearance at will thanks to 54,000 m² of LED screens, its interior is a 16K resolution auditorium with 18,600 seats. The building will offer its viewers a particularly impressive video and audio experience thanks to its LED screens, speaker beam-forming technologies and spatial audio system (both the largest on the planet). Thus, Sphere offers a spectacular 4D cinematic experience supported by moving seats and environmental effects.
The giant room will open its doors in the last quarter of the year and Darren Aronofsky made his film especially for this unique building: pre-sales are already underway.
What do we know about the movie?
Postcards from Earth It is still in post-production and has a tentative running time of two and a half hours. Not much is known about the exact plot of the film, but the director revealed to The Hollywood Reporter (via AdoroCinema) what audiences can expect:
I see the field as a great opportunity to get people out of the Vegas Strip with all its man-made craziness and immerse them as much as possible in the wonder, awe and beauty of the natural world.
The director describes his film as follows:A sci-fi journey deep into our future as our descendants contemplate our shared home“. Noting that the production contains both narrative and documentary elements, he adds that the design of the feature film “To be as effective as possible in conveying the message we wanted to convey emotionally, so it’s less about gender and more about the audience experience.“
realizes A postcard from EarthThe filmmaker’s goal was “To give as wide a taste as possible to the cornucopia of life, natural beauty and human achievements.“To achieve this, filming took place on every continent, including India, Italy and the Bahamas.
“At its best, film is an immersive medium that removes the viewer from ordinary life, be it fantasy and escapism, another place and another time, or the subjective experience of another person. The field is an attempt to increase this immersion“, he explains.
Brand new technology
Darren Aronofsky He also spoke about the incredible technology of filming: “Every day we took the camera, we got better at getting the best shots. It’s a learning process because the technology is new. And it’s the same with post-production. Making half a petabyte or 500,000 gigabytes of film using over 160,000 speakers is mind boggling. But honestly, every movie is always a learning experience. You’re still discovering the language of film and unraveling the story using the tools at your disposal. It’s about making the beauty and fragility of our planet as strong as possible. The tools may be a little different in this film, but the task is the same.“
The project looks quite spectacular. A postcard from Earth Therefore, the premiere will take place in Las Vegas on October 6: if you want to see it, you must book your seats, plane tickets and hotel rooms now!
