‘Wine South America’ will be held from 12 to 14 September
Thirteen Italian wine producers, brought together by ICE, will be present at the fourth edition of Wine South America (WINESA), one of the main exhibitions in Latin America dedicated to the wine sector, from the 12th to the 14th next. of September, in Bento Gonçalves, in Rio Grande do Sul.
The Italian participation in the event is part of a broad program of initiatives aimed at the trade and the consumer with the aim of increasing the presence of the “belpaese” in the Brazilian market, as well as encouraging the entry of new labels and further improving the image of the “Made in Italy”.
According to the director of the Brazilian office of ITA, Ferdinando Fiore, Brazil is the fourth market for Italians in the Americas, after the United States, Canada and Mexico.
In 2022, the South American giant acquired 10.2 million litres, out of a total of almost 1.8 billion liters exported.
For Brazilians, Italy is the fourth supplier, with a share of 7%, behind Chile, Argentina and Portugal.
“In terms of values, it is about 37 million dollars purchased by Brazilians, or about 8% of the total imported,” Fiore underlined.
The Italian Pavilion will present representative wineries of Italy, which has more than 3 thousand types of wine produced in all its 20 regions: Cantina di Solopaca (Campania), Il Cortiglio (Campania), Vigneti Reale (Puglia), Az. Agr. Martoccia di Brunelli Luca (Tuscany), Cantina Valpolicella Negrar (Veneto), Podere Casanova (Tuscany), Borgo Palazzi (Tuscany), Cantina Sociale Colli Fiorentini (Tuscany), Il IV Miglio (Campania), Cantine La Marca (Campania), Cantina Etrusca (Tuscany), Scuderia Italia (Veneto/Tuscany) and Cantina Vignaioli Scansano (Tuscany). The wineries Cantina Valpolicella Negrar and Podere Casanova are looking for an importer in Brazil.
Cantina Colli Morenici, Cantina Fiorentino, Cantina Frentana, Cantina Valpatena, Najma Prosecco, Nosio Spa/Gruppo Mezzacorona, Terre di Giafar, Trullo di Pezza, Bosca and Vinicola Feudo Rudini also participate in the fair.
For Fiore, participation in Wine South America is strategic, as it allows access to the markets of southern Brazil and neighboring countries, where the per capita consumption of wine is more than double the national average and, consequently, the predisposition to consume better quality wine products, such as those offered by the Italians, is greater.
“Although wine consumption in the south of the country is more concentrated on local products, the consumer of the region is already prepared and, if stimulated, tends to partially migrate towards a level where Italians compete”, states the Italian Executive.
Furthermore, according to Fiore, “the event also brings to Bento Gonçalves some of the main buyers from other states of Brazil and from other countries of the region, completing the spectrum of qualified visitors who visit the fair”.
Masterclass – During Wine South America 2023 there are also two exclusive masterclasses, organized to promote the ancient Italian winemaking tradition a little more.
The first will be held on September 13, from 14:00 to 15:30 (local time), curated by Manoel Beato, specialist in Brazil’s most awarded wines and executive sommelier of the Fasano Group since 1992.
