Postponed due to flooding risk Atletico Madrid-Seville

The La Liga match between Atletico Madrid and Sevilla, scheduled for Sunday, has been postponed due to the very high risk of flooding in Madrid, the Spanish Football League has said.

“Given the exceptional weather situation in Madrid… the President of the RFEF, the Minister of Sport and the CEOs of Atlético de Madrid and Sevilla have taken the decision to postpone the match. The new date and time of the match will be communicate shortly,” LaLiga said in a statement on Sunday.

AEMET, the Spanish meteorological agency, has issued a severe weather warning in the regions of Madrid, La Mancha and Andalusia.

The mayor of Madrid, Luis Martínez-Almeida, has asked the population to stay at home, as the city expects “the heaviest rain since records began 49 years ago” this Sunday afternoon.

Atlético are second in the La Liga standings with seven points, tied with Girona, Barcelona and Cadiz, five points behind leaders Real Madrid.
