The only two Wild Cards athletes in the competition, Medina and Herdy, accumulated 10,000 points in the Brazilian rankings and pocketed R$40,000 each in prize money

Sophia Medina and Mateus Herdy were the winners of the Corona Dream Tour Floripa presented by Shell, a championship representing the Main Division of the Brazilian Confederation of Surf (CBSurf) and which took place in Praia Mole, Florianópolis, starting from the last day (30) and will end this Sunday (3). Sophia (SP) won the final against athlete Diana Cristina (PB), known as Tininha. Herdy defeated athlete Krystian Kymerson (ES) in the last heat.
The only Wild Cards athletes in the competition, Medina and Herdy, with their respective victories, accumulated 10,000 points in the Brazilian ranking compiled by CBSurf. They even received R$40,000 each. The Corona Dream Tour Floripa has the highest honor in national surfing.
The women’s final was literally a meeting of generations. Tininha, 33, is one of the most experienced athletes in the country, while Sophia, 18, is one of the youngest and made her debut on the Dream Tour circuit in Florianópolis. And even though she was briefly a professional athlete, Sophia surfed like an adult and dominated the semi-final and final this Sunday. Against Tininha, Sophia scored 12.77 in her two best waves, while Tininha scored 6.40.
Sophia, who left the sea carried by her father and mother, wept much for the conquest. She hadn’t yet won a title this year.
– I was very happy with the opportunity to compete in the Dream Tour. Incredible championship, with a great structure, lots of waves and with the presence of the public. It was very difficult to win this championship because when you get to professional level you get closer and this result means a lot to me. Nothing better than that feeling. We have to live moment to moment and today I want to enjoy this moment, celebrate with my family, eat pizza, because tomorrow is training day, being a professional involves a lot of resignation. It had been over a year since I last won a title and it feels great to win – said Sophia.
Tininha, with the runner-up, added 8,000 points in the standings and won R$15,000 reais.
– I’m happy with my performance in Florianópolis. It was a tough competition and Brazilian women’s surfing showed its strength – commented the runner-up.
In the men’s category, Mateus Herdy and Krystian Kymerson competed in a hard-fought final, open until the very last seconds. With great maneuvers, they thrilled the crowd with every perfect beat. Herdy, who had won the only two 10s of the Corona Dream Tour Floripa in the previous stages, won the dispute with the sum of 15.83.
– I think I will carry this event for the rest of my life. When I’m old I’ll talk about that championship that had high waves in Praia Mole. Winning was the icing on the cake, because winning at home, close to family and friends is something incredible. It has been a difficult week to put into words everything that has happened so special to me. There have been great motos, right from the start, a lot of good vibes. I can only thank you for everything – said Herdy.
Kymerson, who will represent Brazil at the Pan American, also endorsed the competition and his surfing at Praia Mole. He, like Tininha, scored 8,000 points and pocketed R$15,000.
– First of all I thank God so much for reaching this final. I came to the competition unmotivated by my last results, but I was very focused, I stayed with my coach and my family in a house right next door to mentalize. I sat in front of the house and concentrated on watching the waves. And it worked really well. I surfed well and the final was almost there – concluded Kymerson.
