There are movies that didn’t have the expected career in theaters and that deserve a second chance. Jumper is one of them. Billed as the first part of a trilogy, the SF thriller is one of those teenagers who thought they were XXL sagas, but their luck stopped short.
Good news: this amazing adventure, whose box office failure affected the career of Hayden Christensen, Anakin Skywalker of the Star Wars saga, is available on Netflix!
Released in theaters in 2008, Jumper, directed by Doug Liman (Memory at Cannes, Tomorrow), tells the story of David Rice (Hayden Christensen), who can teleport anywhere on Earth. A superpower that allows him to snap his fingers and dine on top of the Sphinx in Egypt, then spend the day surfing in Australia, dine in Paris and have dessert in Japan.
No walls can stop David Rice and no bank vault can hold him back. Free as a man, he lives in the most total neglect until…
Adapted from the 1992 Stephen Gould story, Jumper doesn’t deserve his sad fate. Because the movie, with its brilliant pitch (who hasn’t dreamed of teleporting?), is highly recommended. Spectacular and rhythmic, this super-heroic teenage adventure also features a delightful cast, including Samuel L. Jackson, Kristen Stewart and Diane Lane. Ambitious and wildly entertaining, this jumper has a good chance of hooking you!
Note that for Jumper, director Doug Liman required Hayden Christensen to perform his own stunts. The result is painful: an injured hand, an open ear and inflammation of the pupil, which sent the young actor to the hospital!
Teleportation required, Jumper was filmed in the four corners of the earth, from Toronto to Tokyo to Rome. In the Italian capital, the film crew had the privilege of filming several scenes in the Colosseum, but under certain conditions: they should not place the subject on the ground, they should not use artificial lighting and they should not take shots. Performed only at very specific times so as not to disturb tourists.
