The Equalizer 3 should be the last film in the franchise, says director

Starring Denzel Washington, The Equalizer franchise began in 2014

With premiere scheduled for October 5, 2023 in Brazilian theaters, The Protector 3 should be the last film in the action franchise starring denzel washington (Robert McCall), according to director Antoine Fuqua. The production marks the return of the partnership between the actor and Dakota Fanning on the big screen.

During an interview with People, the filmmaker commented on how he planned for the franchise to be wrapped up in a trilogy, but left a possible continuation open. “Never say never. I will miss Robert McCall. I think it was a great character, my hero,” he said. “But it looks like it’s the last one.”

Right away, fuqua was asked if fans and audiences can expect some kind of spinoff, as happened with John Wick, which won video game and television series. “That will depend on the studio. But that would be really cool, I think,” she replied.

Then, the director spoke about the public’s acceptance of the character played by washington: “People come to me all the time. They love Robert McCall. I think this has to do with justice. People want justice and obviously in a movie you see that happen. He’s an ordinary hero.”

Finally, Antoine Fuqua spoke about the partnership with denzel washingtonwith whom he worked in the other two films of The protector It is Training Day (2001). “We have our rhythm and our process. It doesn’t really change. It’s easier in the sense that we have a shortcut. We work a lot in advance, just getting together and talking over dinner or lunch.”

When we got to the set, me and Denzel we already know where we’re going, at least the basic intent, and then we build from there. We leave room for creativity, but that has been our relationship from the beginning.
