This year, in Picard’s third (and for the moment, last) season, the main interpreters of the cult series Star Trek: The Next Generation gathered around Patrick Stewart for an all-new adventure aboard the USS. enterprise.
But this reunion, celebrated by most Trekkies, almost never saw the light of day… because of Jean-Luc Picard’s translator! Originally, Sir Patrick Stewart was reluctant to cast any other actors from the series in the Picard series – which was intended to be a direct sequel to Star Trek TNG – for reasons that have not been disclosed.
In an American podcast Rule 7Series showrunner Terry Matalas revealed that after just three seasons on air, the British comedian finally made sure to welcome his former housemates to the series.
I think over time Patrick convinced himself of this idea. His friends began to appear in the series, first Jonathan (Fricks) and Marina (Sirtis), John De Lancia also returned, then Whoopi (Goldberg) … This reunion was so warm and cheerful that he finally decided to bring everyone back.
While the first two seasons of Picard were met with mixed reviews, the show’s third season was a reboot of sorts, sidelining most of the new characters introduced in the series in favor of old Star Trek: The New Generation interpreters.
A decision that allowed Picard to end in style… and opened the door for a possible Season 4. Before the decision is made, Trekkies have an appointment next year with Season 3 of Strange New Worlds and the end of Star Trek Discovery. At the end of the fifth season.
Two new Star Trek productions also launched: a series centered on young recruits at Starfleet Academy, as well as the TV movie Section 31, starring Oscar-winning actress Michelle Yeoh.
