What is it about?
Antonia, known as Tony, is raising her five children alone. full time job. He also sings in the evening, in bars, because you have to feed your family well. Tony has talent. He recorded a hit single. But that was 20 years ago. Today, his two elders are preparing to join the university. So Tony wonders: What will he do when all his offspring leave home? At 43, is there still time to take control of your life?
“This is the question that everyone is asking…“, starts Camille Cotin in the middle of the interview. How is it possible for a 22 year old? (Editor’s note. 22 years old at the time of script writing, 24 years old today) can enter the head of a 40-year-old woman”, which hints at the precocity of Tony’s young director, Nathan Ambrose, in the family.
The filmmaker, who recently celebrated his 24th birthday, is already in his second feature film and a few self-made films when he was very young! This enthusiast never gave up to pursue his dreams of cinema. After Paper Flags, which was warmly received at festivals with a great cast (Noemi Merlan and Guillaume Gouy), here is his new film. With this project from Hugo Seliniak and Nicolas Dumont, Nathan Ambrosson takes a new step in his young career as a screenwriter and director.
Nathan Ambroson and Camille Cotin
Toni en famille is a very good film, constantly on the edge of emotion and humor, offering Camille Cotin one of her best roles, if not her best. It manifests itself differently, gently and attractively.
This delightful film is about exactly the tenderness it shows, while always being fair and relevant to the topics it covers, including the burden of caring for five children while being a single mother. Camille Cotin is surrounded by a group of children, all excellent, from Thomas Joria (noted before the Guard) to Léa Lopez from the Comedie-Française and especially visible in Clem, without forgetting Louise LaBeque (Zombie Child, Coma), Oscar. Pauleau (Heureusement qu’on s’a) and Juliane Lepoureau (La Ch’tite famille). Discover our video interview with Nathan Ambrosoni and Camille Cotin.
Tony and the Family hits theaters this Wednesday, September 6, 2023.
