August was the month with the highest number of women killed in Bahia since the Fogo Cruzado Institute began its activities in the state in July 2022. In total, 27 women were victims of gun violence, 18 of whom were killed and nine wounds. Maria Bernadete Pacífico, known as Mãe Bernadete, was murdered in a closed environment in Quilombo Pitanga dos Palmares, in the municipality of Simões Filho, Bahia, on 17 August. In the period analyzed, Fogo Cruzado was responsible for a total of 186 shootings in Bahia, which left 163 people dead and 45 injured in Salvador and the metropolitan region.
