Guardiola is the FA’s dream of conquering England, the newspaper said

The British newspaper ‘Daily Mail’ reported on Wednesday that the Football Association, the main entity in English football, has dreams of signing Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola of Spain to take charge of the national team after Euro 2024. The representatives hope the Current manager, Gareth Southgate, is stepping down after the tournament and not going to the 2026 Cup.

The work with the current coach has been criticized for the lack of good results. In 2021, the team took second place in the same European Cup and, the following year, fell to France in the quarterfinals of the World Cup in Qatar. Hired at the helm of the national team in September 2016, after the departure of Sam Allardyce, the former Crystal Palace and Aston Villa player has never really convinced the fans and could leave after the dispute in the continental competition.

The possibility of leaving had already been signaled even before the World Cup dispute. Names such as Eddie Howe (Newcastle), Graham Potter (then at Chelsea) and Mauricio Pochettino (no club at the time) were named and appear to remain listed internally, but Pep Guardiola is the firm’s favourite. Also on the list is Sarina Wiegman, coach of the English women’s sphere, who was champion of the Eurocup in 2022 and immediately took second place at the Women’s World Cup for Spain.

Guardiola’s current contract with City expires in June 2025. The manager led Mancunia’s side to the Triple Crown in 2022-23, lifting the Champions League, FA Cup and Premier League trophies. The trend is that the focus will remain the same for the current season, but the FA plans to “measure the waters” for an international arrival.

In seven years in charge of the Citizens, Pep won the Premier League five times. In addition, he has eight other national trophies on his resume, as well as winning the Champions League and UEFA Super Cup in 2023.
