Prepare a blanket, hot chocolate and light a fire in the fireplace! Virgin River returns to Netflix this Thursday, September 7th. After an absence of just over a year, the romance series starring Alexandra Breckenridge and Martin Henderson is returning for a fifth season, which will be split into two parts for the first time. The first part, consisting of 10 episodes, will be released this Thursday, while the second will be released on November 30 with two special Christmas episodes.
With the breakneck pace of the storylines, it’s sometimes hard to remember all the events that took place in Virgin River Season 4, which aired in July 2022 on Netflix. With the release of a new round of episodes, take a look at the unresolved events of the finale.
Is a new doctor on the way?
In season 4, Doc (Tim Matheson) learned that he was suffering from a serious illness. He then decides to hire a new doctor, Dr. Cameron Hayek (Marc Ganime), so he can take his place back when it’s time to retire.
After developing feelings for Mel, which of course were not reciprocated since the nurse was pregnant with Jack, he finally announced that he wanted to leave Virgin River. Will he choose to stay? Answer in season 5.
Jack is the father of Mel’s baby…
This was the big mystery of Season 4: Who is the father of Mel’s baby? At the end of season three, the nurse found out she was pregnant, but didn’t know whether Mark (Daniel Gillies), her late husband, or Jack was the parent. It took an entire season and many twists and turns to finally discover that the ex-soldier was indeed the baby’s father.
In the last episode of season 4, the latter asked Mel to marry her to the delight of the young woman, who accepted without hesitation. Unfortunately, according to Virgin River showrunner Patrick Sean Smith, a marriage between the two characters is not ready for the series.
… but not the Charmaine twins
At the end of the first season, Jack found out that Charmaine (Lauren Hammersley) was pregnant. And for 3 seasons, everyone believed that the ex-soldier was the father of the yet-to-be-born twins (because yes, at the dawn of this season 5, Charmaine still hadn’t given birth).
A pregnancy that brought great stress to Jack, who for some time feared losing custody of the future children after Charmaine’s marriage. But in the last scene of season 4, he admitted that he lied. Jack is not the father of her babies. Season 5 should definitely lift the veil on the mystery parent’s identity.
