Aiming to attract more viewers, Max (formerly HBO Max) plans to soon offer free streaming of basketball, baseball and hockey games. According to Bloomberg, the promotion is expected to be available later this year, but will last for a limited time.
The news corroborates a CNBC report that noted that Warner was preparing to launch a new tier of sports streaming. It was announced at the time that the tab would debut in October, strategically at the same time as the start of the MLB playoffs.
It’s worth noting that Warner Bros. has not yet confirmed the launch of the sports streaming section, and this wouldn’t be its first campaign into the sports market either. He declined to comment on the project, Bloomberg reported.
Of course, the focus on sports content isn’t just on Max. Other streaming services such as Paramount Plus, Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV+, Peacock and Disney’s ESPN+ also broadcast soccer championships and more.
