The goal is to promote the sustainable production and use of biofuels worldwide.

The three main biofuel producers in the world are participating in the initiative: Brazil, the United States and India. The alliance brings together 19 countries and 12 international organizations and will remain open to new members.

According to the Brazilian government, the result is the launch of this alliance “India’s ambitious national biofuels program, which includes everything from the upcoming adoption of a 20% ethanol blend in gasoline to the production of flex-fuel automobiles, as well as the development and production of second-generation biofuels.”

To develop this policy, the government emphasizes that Brazil and India have worked together at both the governmental, academic, technological and commercial levels.

The International Energy Agency says global production of sustainable biofuels should triple by 2030 so the world can reach its goal of net-zero emissions by 2050.

In a statement, the Brazilian government informs that liquid biofuels provided more than 4% of the total energy destined for transport in 2022. “The use of biofuels in aviation and shipping to reduce emissions from their respective sectors will further increase global consumption and the need to expand the number of suppliers,” says a note from Planalto.

Brazil has been producing and using biofuels for 40 years, “with excellent results, especially in creating jobs and reducing emissions from the transport sector”adds the note.
