In our lives “stuck” on the couch between Orelsan and Gring, as Serge Le Mitheau, before we were set on fire as MAAAARC, and now as comfortable as behind the microphone in The Sentinel, Jonathan Cohen. Of course, he is considered one of the funniest actors of his generation.
If it’s the small screen that has made him a big public favorite, the actor has also lit up dark rooms, both in comedies and arthouse films.
Jonathan Cohen and Marina Foys in a bloated comedy
Available on UniversCiné, Énorme is right at the crossroads of these two genres. Directed by Sophie Letourneur (Les Coquillettes, Gaby Baby Doll, Voyages enItalie) and released in 2020, this Jean Vigo prize-winning feature film examines pregnancy in a very unique tone. Jonathan Cohen stars as Frederick, a man who desperately wants a child with his wife Claire (Marina Foy), a professional pianist who never wanted children.
Desperate to start a family, Frédéric, who manages everything in the couple, falsifies his wife’s contraceptive pills, which consequently makes her pregnant, denies her pregnancy, while he commits suicide.
Through this daring and provocative performance, the filmmaker manages to deal with such issues as forced pregnancy, dysmorphophobia, couples and even the profession of midwifery with humor, honesty and bluntness.
Wanting to tell her story realistically, LeTurner demonstrated authenticity by portraying “non-actors” playing their own roles, even going so far as to film actual births of real mothers-to-be. The sequences were also pre-shot with the lovers, then performed by the main actors, all brought together by the magic of editing. In short, Inflated Alien is not to be missed at UniversCiné.
