The Brazilian team returns to the field this Tuesday (12). After beating Bolivia 5-1 at home, Canarinho travels to Lima, Peru, to face the local team, in a match valid for the second round of the South American World Cup qualifiers. The match, which will start at 11pm (Brasilia time), will take place at the National Stadium of Peru.
In fact, in addition to arriving with morale after winning on their debut in the competition, Brazil has a good record against the Peruvians. After all, in the last four games, Canarinho has won four. The last one was in September 2021, when Everton Ribeiro and Neymar ensured Brazil’s 2-1 victory.
Where to look
The match between Peru and Brazil will be broadcast on TV Globo and SporTV.
What is Peru like?
Unlike the Brazilian team, the La Blanquirroja did not win in the first round of qualifying. Juan Reynoso’s team managed a goalless draw against Paraguay, away from home. However, the result was seen positively, after all right back Advíncula was sent off in the first half. They will not face Brazil on Tuesday. The list of victims is completed by defender Carlos Zambrano, midfielder Cueva and forward Gianluca Lapadula.
In fact, facing the five-time world champion team, the Peruvians’ hope is placed in Paolo Guerrero. A former player for Corinthians, Flamengo, Internacional and Avaí, the 39-year-old number nine is one of the biggest names in domestic football. On the eve of the match, defender Marquinhos, of the Brazilian team, highlighted the qualities of the centre-forward, who will start in Lima.
What is Brazil like?
Coach Fernando Diniz will have to field the Brazilian team with the same team that started the match against Bolivia. Indeed, defender Gabriel Magalhães, who suffered pain in his right thigh during the last match, was in doubt. He subsequently underwent tests which ruled out injuries. He has therefore trained without limitations in the last few days and should form a pair together with Marquinhos.
Despite the favoritism, the Brazilian team knows that it won’t be easy in Lima. After all, the matches between Brazil and Peru in recent years have made this comparison more difficult for the Brazilians. This is how Marquinhos planned the clash against the Peruvians.
“Brazil and Peru have had a very strong rivalry in recent years. Copa América, qualifiers, very competitive, very difficult matches. Often the results do not tell the true idea of the game. Peru is on the rise. This generation has always brought us many difficulties,” said the Brazilian defender.
