Bolsonaro undergoes two surgeries in Sao Paulo

The former president undergoes surgery to correct a hiatal hernia and a deviated septum; He was admitted to the operating room just before 5 in the morning

Former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) performs two surgeries this Tuesday morning, 12, at the Vila Nova Star hospital, in the south of São Paulo. One of the procedures is performed to correct a hiatal hernia, to treat reflux, and the second, a deviated septum, to improve breathing conditions. According to Bolsonaro’s advisor, former minister Fabio Wajngarten, the procedures take place “within normality”. According to him, Bolsonaro was admitted to the surgical center “just before” 5 in the morning.

Bolsonaro was hospitalized on the afternoon of this Monday 11th. In recent weeks, the former CEO has undergone tests in the same department to determine surgical interventions.

The former president’s hospitalization comes amid investigations into the illegal sale of jewels received on an official mission by members of the Bolsonaro government. Revealed by Estadao in March the matter moved to a new phase with the approval of the plea agreement of Lieutenant Colonel Mauro Cid, former aide-de-camp and right-hand man of the former CEO.

As demonstrated by EstadaoThe CID’s accusation increasingly worries the former president and his family. An interlocutor of Bolsonaro said, with reservations, that no one in the PL has any doubt that more ferocious accusations will emerge, and not just regarding the jewelery scandal. The former aide’s testimony could even mean that Bolsonaro could be expelled from the army and no longer be a retired captain.

This is the sixth surgery the former president has undergone since he was stabbed in Juiz de Fora, during the 2018 presidential campaign. The last surgery took place in the United States, in January this year. On the 9th of the same month, one day after the invasion and plundering of the headquarters of the Three Powers by their supporters in Brasilia, he felt abdominal pain and had to be treated for an adhesion in an incisional hernia.
