One Piece: This character is more important in the Netflix series than the anime, and for good reason

It’s safe to say that One Piece’s casting has been a hit with Netflix subscribers. Whether it’s the fun-loving Inaki Godoi (Luffy), the hard-working Taz Skylar (Sanji), the determined Emily Rudd (Nami) or the katana expert Makenyu (Zoro). But there is one actor who deserves to be introduced and his name is Morgan Davis.

He was the one chosen for Kobe’s qualities. When we meet him, he is the lackey of the pirate Alvida, but dreams of only one thing: to join the ranks of the navy. After meeting Luffy – who inspires him to follow his dream – he begins to train. He was soon found in the crew of Vice Admiral Garp.

Season 1 of One Piece adapted the saga in which Luffy’s grandfather does not appear at all. You have to reach episode 313 of the anime and volume 45 of the manga to see it in action and find Kobe.

The latter is no longer the starter of the navy and has become much stronger. If he doesn’t (yet?) get close to our hero, he’s not quite the weak guy we found him at the beginning of the series.

Kobe is a much more important character in the series

The writers of the live-action movie decided from the beginning to make Kobe the main character. It’s not just the one next to you Unlike our hero, the manga. It’s an interesting choice because it allows us to contrast his and Luffy’s evolution. Navy on one side and piracy on the other. Their friendship still remains in the series as they share the same values of justice and respect.

Cobb questions Garp’s judgment several times as the latter asks his men to do everything they can to capture the Straw Hat crew. When they go to Kokoyashi in the last episode to confront Luffy and his friends and the Vice Admiral wants to stop them, the pink-haired rookie intervenes, even if it means incurring his wrath.

Also he comes to give Luffy the desired message and warns that from now on they are enemies. The next time they meet, it will be on the battlefield. A scene that echoes their exchange later in the manga. It is enough to announce the union of both at the summit.

The writers of Netflix made a necessary choice by mixing arcs and sagas, because they had to pack a lot of intrigue and information into only a few episodes. Therefore, it is highly likely that we will see Kobe again in One Piece season 2, almost purchased.

Not an insignificant actor

Transgender actor Morgan Davis has been cast as Cobb in the live-action adaptation. A choice that welcomed the LGBTQ+ community and that allows the Netflix series to have a little inclusivity where the base material was sorely lacking.

Morgan Davis previously starred in Evil Dead Rise, where he played Danny, the eldest son. A young Australian transgender came out in 2020. Before that, he was seen opposite Charlotte Gainsbourg in The Tree, where he was only 7 years old. Thanks to One Piece, his career might take off in a new direction. In any case, Davis is one of the young talents to keep an eye on.
