When she met Amanda Seyfried in Mamma Mia!, Meryl Streep commented on the importance of Mean Girls in her family
One of the greatest actresses of all time, Meryl Streep also proves to be a great mother, and has presented films such as Mean Girls (2004) and Romy and Michele (1997) for his daughters. She defined both features as “practically religious texts in my house.”
During an interview with Vogue to celebrate 15 years of Mamma Mia! (2008) with other names in the cast, Amanda Seyfried (Sophie) recalled the rather cute way in which Streep spoke to her for the first time during filming.
“I went to the studio of [figurinista] Ann Roth for my first test and Meryl was there when I showed up,” he recalled. The first thing she said was, ‘You’re very important in my house because of Mean Girls!'” It’s worth remembering how Seyfried starred in the 2004 film in the role of Karen Smith.
“I’m sure she can imagine how intimidating it would be for someone like me to play her daughter, and I believe she said that with every intention of making me feel more comfortable,” the actress continued. “She stepped off the pedestal I created for her in one sentence, and that meant a lot to me.”
Then, Meryl Streep also talked about this interaction – and took the opportunity to highlight another film. “Mean Girls It is Romy and Michele they’re basically religious texts in my house,” he said. “Those are the movies I watch the most with my girls to this day.”
So I was very familiar with the little Amanda entering Mamma Mia!. She became like another daughter to me.
