Martin Scorsese stated that he was ‘always a bit against’ making lists like 10 favorite films
In an interview with Team (via NME), Martin Scorsese said he’s “always a bit against” listing a top 10. The statement came to light when he was asked about his ten favorite films. “I’ve tried to make lists of films that I personally feel are my favorites over the years, whatever that means,” he said.
“And then you discover that the word ‘favorite’ has different levels: films that impressed you the most, as opposed to films that you simply like to keep watching, as opposed to those that you watch several times and get to know more and more, or the try it as if it were new. So, they are varied. And I’m always a bit against ’10 best’ lists”, added the director.
Even so, Scorsese made an effort and followed the tradition of the magazine Sight And Sound by sharing this year a list of what would be his 15 favorite films. Check out:
1. 2001 – A Space Odyssey (1968)
2. Eight and a Half (1963)
3. Ashes and Diamonds (1958)
4. Citizen Kane (1941)
5. Diary of a Priest (1951)
6. Live (1952)
7. The Leopard (1963)
8. The Word (1955)
9. Paisà (1946)
10. The Little Red Shoes (1948)
11. The Sacred River (1951)
12. The Bandit Giuliano (1962)
